In this course Beginning Sanskrit the students will be able to:
In this course, students will study the use of the Devanāgarī script, origin of the sounds, pronunciations of vowels, consonants, combination letters and conjunct letters. They will learn the Saṃskṛtam numerals. They will combine letters to form words, and practice writing and reading with correct pronunciation. This course is where the students get acquainted with the building blocks of Saṃskṛtam language, and it will prepare them for their Saṃskṛtam learning.
Students will have a dedicated 1.5 hours of contact time with the faculty each week. The class is carefully structured to facilitate effective learning in an online face-to-face format. The curriculum is designed to build upon the knowledge gained in previous classes. Regular homework assignments will provide valuable opportunities to practice the concepts covered in class. Successful completion of the course requires the submission of graded homework and the final Quarter End Exam (QEE).
