Hindu University of America follows the quarter system. There are four academic quarters per year. Each quarter is 11 weeks long. Here is the typical quarter schedule.
Term | Week | Dates |
---|---|---|
Winter Quarter | 11 Weeks | January 2nd week to March 3rd week |
Spring Quarter | 11 Weeks | April 1st week to June 3rd week |
Summer Quarter | 11 Weeks | July 2nd week to September 3rd week |
Fall Quarter | 11 Weeks | October 1st week to December 2nd week |
The schedules for all courses including intensive courses (week-long, weekend, and one-day) are typically announced two quarters before courses begin.
A 3-credit course meets 3 hours a week for 10 weeks for a total of 30 hours of instruction (contact hours). Additionally, students are expected to commit 6 hours (twice the contact hours) a week for self-study and assignments. The eleventh week is exam week.
This schedule includes a 3-week holiday period from Dec 3rd week to Jan 1st week, and a 1-week break between Winter-Spring quarters, as well as a 2-week break between Spring and Summer quarters.
Hindu University of America observes 10 holidays (a mixture of US Federal holidays and Hindu festival observances) when the university is closed. Makeup schedules for these holidays will be announced separately.
