Dr. Vaidyanathan Ramaswami is a mathematician by training (M.Sc. Stat from Univ. of Madras, Ph.D. O.R. from Purdue Univ., USA) and retired from a long career in telecommunications and was Chief Scientist at Bell Communications Research, USA.
He has a large number of technical publications in leading journals, many patents, and also a monograph in Applied Probability published by SIAM & ASA. Ramaswami’s interest in things Indian is strong, and he has participated actively in many Indian organizations in the USA including as Secretary and President of the Carnatic Music Association of North America. Among his two books related to India and Indian thought are “Innovation by India for India, the Need and the Challenge” and “Bhaja Govindam, A Topical Exposition.”
He has been an ardent student of Vedanta for over thirty years and has undertaken a serious study of the lectures of many leading gurus like Swami Dayananda Saraswati and Swami Omkarananda. Dr. Vaidyanathan Ramaswami has also composed nearly 50 Carnatic music compositions in Sanskrit, Tamil, and Hindi which are sung by many leading Carnatic musicians. An album of his songs sung by Sikkil Gurucharan came out in 2019 and two more are to be released soon. His course on Bhaja Govindam is inspired by his own personal peace obtained through a study of this great work of Sri Adi Sankara.
