In this course the students will be able to:
In this course, the student will be exposed to kta-pratyayaḥ (past participle in passive voice), tavyat-anīyar pratyayāḥ, and impersonal voice. They delve deeper into vidhi-liṅg-lakārāḥ (potential moods). They are introduced to the basics of svara-sandhis (coalescence of two letters coming in immediate contact with each other, in vowels). The students continue to gain insight into the lives of esteemed Saṃskṛtam poets like Kālidāsaḥ, Baṇaḥ, Gaṅgadevī, Thirumalāmbā, Mallīnāthaḥ through their kaviparicayaḥ. This quarter they will study the fifth to seventh vibhakti (declensions of nouns) in halanta-puṃliṅga (masculine bases ending in consonant sounds). The students will be instructed in letter writing to improve their day-to-day use of Saṃskṛtam.
Students will have a dedicated 1.5 hours of contact time with the faculty each week. The class is carefully structured to facilitate effective learning in an online face-to-face format. The curriculum is designed to build upon the knowledge gained in previous classes. Regular homework assignments will provide valuable opportunities to practice the concepts covered in class. Successful completion of the course requires the submission of graded homework and the final Quarter End Exam (QEE)
