In this course Beginning Sanskrit the students will be able to:
In this course the students will learn songs in Saṃskṛtam. Throughout this quarter they follow the listen, speak, read and write approach using simple conversations to learn saptakakārāḥ (the seven question words), adverbs, ktavatu (past participle) in singular and plural, sambodhanam (case endings of nouns for addressing), lṛt lakārāḥ (future tense) verb forms, indeclinables, numbers in three genders as adjectives, instrumental case, pairing words, ktva /lyap (perfect participles). Additionally, students learn ślokas and read stories that help reinforce their knowledge of grammar.
Students will have a dedicated 1.5 hours of contact time with the faculty each week. The class is carefully structured to facilitate effective learning in an online face-to-face format. The curriculum is designed to build upon the knowledge gained in previous classes. Regular homework assignments will provide valuable opportunities to practice the concepts covered in class. Successful completion of the course requires the submission of graded homework and the final Quarter End Exam (QEE).
